SUSTAINABILITY

We have a responsibility

Almost all activity generates emissions. Gyro's responsibility is to find good, emission-reducing solutions that are easy for the customer to choose. Therefore, sustainability must be an integral part of our work process. We shall achieve this through the measurement of emissions, smart use of resources, the organization of sustainability routines for the employees and close cooperation with our suppliers. This means that we have to challenge ourselves, our customers and suppliers. We recognize that different projects have different prerequisites and thus also different potential for emission reduction. But we believe and believe that the measurement of emission drivers and associated follow-up of measures provides an awareness that will influence emissions in the right direction.

Our tools

In this process we utilize several tools. Gyro is certified as Eco Lighthouse since 2017, and we can certify green conferences and green events in the Eco Lighthouse standard.  In 2022, we joined the Green Producers Club and have started using the Green Producers Tool to measure CO2 emissions in our productions.

Based on emissions data from projects in 2023, we have set a reduction target of 10% for 2024 on standard events (the events we do most of).

These tools provide us with insights into the major emission drivers and assist us in taking targeted actions while raising awareness about different activities in event productions. This will be done in collaboration with our clients and suppliers to contribute to emission reduction.

At Gyro, we have developed a tool called GO Zero. It is a competition that challenges our customers to reduce CO2 emissions on an individual level. It can be used in relation to events or as standalone campaigns. The aim is to raise awareness of one's own carbon footprint and inspire lasting change in behavior. GO Zero has won several awards.

UN Sustainable Development Goals

We have chosen to focus on two of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. We believe that Sustainable Development Goals 12 and 17 are the most relevant to our industry and that our contribution to sustainable development is greatest within these goals.

Sustainable Development Goal 12 - Responsible Consumption and Production: 'Sustainable consumption and production is about doing more with fewer resources.' (United Nations) Smart resource utilization should guide all our procurement of goods and services. We aim to deliver tailored solutions with efficient resource utilization and a high level of reusability.

Sustainable Development Goal 17 - Partnerships for the Goals: 'It is about how the preceding goals can be realized by fostering a global partnership for sustainable development.' (United Nations)

For Gyro to succeed in working effectively with Sustainable Development Goal 12, it requires engaging customers, suppliers, and other relevant stakeholders in the process. Therefore, these two goals complement each other well. Industry players are interdependent in various ways, and collaboration will make it possible to achieve the goals. Membership in the Green Producers Club and closer communication with customers and suppliers are integral to this. We are optimistic that collaboration can lay the foundation for a new sustainable industry standard.

How we work with transport and procurement

Transportation We strive to organize gatherings at natural hubs that require minimal travel and increase the possibilities for the use of public transportation. We challenge our customers to choose train/bus over flights and select locations that make this possible. The majority of our external meetings take place digitally. We are also working on digital broadcasts and hybrid events, which reduce the need for transportation.

Procurement of products and services We aim to offer our customers the most sustainable products and services, focusing on location choices, opportunities for reusability, multifunctionality, and durability. This means prioritizing the use of reusable products, attempting to avoid single-use items, and reducing unnecessary purchases. Where possible, we also prioritize suppliers and partners with a focus on sustainability and environmental certification.

In the technical rigging and staging areas, we seek sustainable solutions that involve materials with multiple functions, reusability, and reduced transportation requirements. Additionally, we explore digital solutions to replace conventional methods whenever new materials are required.

Regarding food and catering, we advise our customers to choose local, seasonal, organic, Fair Trade, and MSC-certified fish, while also recommending limiting meat consumption and offering excellent vegetarian alternatives. Food waste is a significant issue that we aim to reduce through customized menus
